Automated Crack Detection System (LCMS)

There has been significant advancement in the development of automated crack detection for pavement assessment over the past five to six years. The emergence of the Laser Crack Measurement System (LCMS), developed by Pavemetrics and the National Optics Institute (NOI), is one such development.

In partnership with ICC, PMS commissioned an ARAN (Automated Road Analyser) vehicle, equipped with an LCMS. The LCMS unit can identify a wider spectrum of defects, simultaneously. This ability to gather a far richer data set, provides considerable financial benefits in the pavement monitoring process.
